چکیده

Theories of knowledge representation and reasoning about knowledge in philosophy are considered from the vantage point of epistemic logic. This logic is primarily a logic of knowing that, and its semantics can be considered an explication of the well-known idea that "information means elimination of uncertainty". A number of other theories are discussed as further developments of epistemic logic. They include: (1) theory of questions and answers. (2) interplay of quantifiers and epistemic concepts. (3) representations of other kinds of knowledge than knowing that, especially those expressed by knows + an indirect wh-question and by knows + direct grammatical object: (4) the problem of cross-identification; cross-identification methods. the coexistence of different (5) the problem of logical omniscience. {6) informational independence in epistemic logic and its manifestations, including the de dicto de re contrast and wh-questions with outside quantif iers. (7) an interrogative model of inquiry and its applications, especially the conceptualization of tacit knowledge and of range of attention.

Epistemic Logic: From Knowledge to Cognition

Standard logic is mainly concerned with declarative popositions, and standard epistemic logic decribes the various qualifications that may be attached to these: 'known', 'believed', 'doubted' , and so on. But the essence of cognition consists just as much in the procedures by which we arrive at such attitudes or modify them, and hence the essence of epistemic logic lies also in the cognitive pr...

The Geometry of Knowledge

The most widely used attractive logical account of knowledge uses standard epistemic models, i.e., graphs whose edges are indistinguishability relations for agents. In this paper, we discuss more general topological models for a multi-agent epistemic language, whose main uses so far have been in reasoning about space. We show that this more geometrical perspective affords greater powers of dist...

Epistemic Virtue from the Viewpoints of Mulla Sadra and Zagzebski

This paper compares epistemic virtue from the viewpoints of Zagzebski and Mulla Sadra, aiming to determine the extent to which their viewpoints on epistemic virtue are similar. Zagzebski, the contemporary philosopher, considers epistemic virtue as the basis on which knowledge is interpreted. She sees epistemic virtue as a requirement for achieving knowledge. Mulla Sadra, the founder of Transcen...

Reasoning about Knowledge and Strategies: Epistemic Strategy Logic

In this paper we introduce Epistemic Strategy Logic (ESL), an extension of Strategy Logic with modal operators for individual knowledge. This enhanced framework allows us to represent explicitly and to reason about the knowledge agents have of their own and other agents’ strategies. We provide a semantics to ESL in terms of epistemic concurrent game models, and consider the corresponding model ...

Complex Epistemic Modalities in the Situation Calculus

We develop a formal account of complex group-level epistemic modalities in the situation calculus, with a particular focus on reasoning about common knowledge. Expressions involving common knowledge cannot be handled by standard regression techniques and are thus difficult to reason about effectively. Taking our cue from recent promising work in dynamic epistemic logic, we overcome this limitat...
